New post Internal Memo re. Fellay and Muller
Internal Memo following the Meeting of Bishop Fellay with Cardinal Muller (October 2, 2014)

Confidential Internal Memo from Menzingen following the Roman Meeting

Priestly Society of St. Pius X

Confidential Internal Memo from the General House

October 2, 2014

On Tuesday, September 23, 2014, Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X, met Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He was accompanied by two General Assistants of the Society. Cardinal Müller was surrounded by Mgr. Ladaria, Secretary of the CDF, by Mgr. Joseph Augustine Di Noia, OP, Assistant Secretary, and by Mgr. di Pozzo, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei and Mgr. Descourtieux, of the same Commission. The meeting was held from 11:00 am. to 1:00 pm.

- The general impression the meeting leaves is that there is nothing new (see Press Release 2005 after the audience with Pope Benedict XVI, used word-for-word in that of 2014):

- As before, Bishop Fellay and his assistants were cordially received.

- We note that the Pope and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith want to maintain discussions and contact. They do not want to sever them.

- There is no threat of punishment, but an insistence on obedience and an insistence that we regularize the situation quickly, by accepting the Doctrinal Declaration of 2012 (and the Prelature), which we have again refused because of the ambiguities of this document.

- We are asked to accept the Magisterium of the Church as the standard of the Faith, which in principle is not a problem for a Catholic, but it is the application of this acceptance to conciliar and post-conciliar teaching which poses a serious problem, due to the break with the previous Magisterium.

- They do not understand or do not admit that the Council itself could be at fault, and so they cannot go back to the causes of the crisis.

- It is difficult to convey our position, they do not understand or do not want to understand. We are not speaking the same language.

- Our observations and objections are seen as secondary or even illusory compared to the problems they must face in the Church (next Synod on the family, etc.).

- The doctrinal differences remain (ecumenism, religious liberty and collegiality, like the problems posed by the New Mass).

- Rome asks, as part of these discussions, meetings between members of the Society and bishops, which will take place in an informal manner: the choice of location and interlocutors being left to our initiative.

Our intentions:

- Maintain contact especially when the initiative comes from Rome, it is the spirit and the practice of Archbishop Lefebvre.

- It is a matter of using these meetings to put forward, explain our position on the causes of the crisis in the Church. This is the missionary spirit of the Church that we must keep.

- We must be firm on the principles, the doctrine; patient and charitable on the form.

Love how they mention having a missionary spirit to heretics, it doesn't say it explicitly, but it is certainly implied.
