 Celtic and Germanic folk music
It might be nice to do a thread of traditional folk music. Australians and Americans might add some tunes if they like.

That's a good idea, Gandolfo. I'll have to try to learn how to do that.
There are lots of beautiful tunes around in the world of real folk.

Re: Celtic and Germanic folk music
I've just seen the first one... captivating tune... beautifully accompanied by (almost) stoic germanic faces. Beautiful.

I like this stuff. In the second of those videos the Piano-Accordian is a Paolo Soprani, and looks identical to the one we have. No doubt this will stimulate one of the periodic bouts of accordian-playing by several of my children...

Thanks for this Gandolfo! I too appreciate the first video, I've always enjoyed the Irish reels and Joe Burke is good!

I've seen them all now, Gandolfo.
Beautiful! It'll take me half a day, at least, to return to earth and breathe normaly. Thanks.

Re: Celtic and Germanic folk music
Im listening to Norwegian folk music on this net radio station. It reminds me variously of early baroque, Celtic, early French courtly, medieval, British sea shanty. http://www.nrk.no/folkemusikk/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_N ... k.29_music

It reminds us of our past and our identity. Y' know, Gandolfo, I'm a bit (well, y' know,) Odd about these things. It seems to me that to imagine that our children and grandchildren are any less human than our grandparents (or other antecedents) is a bit of a smack at them, at least. (i.e. you bred brutes). However, there's no denying that a culture's music is somewhat a presentation of it's ethos. The madness of self-indulgence, hopeless despair, that characterises our times is, indeed, reflected in the stuff they call music. But all is not lost! Beautiful music, wherever, whenever it comes from arouses the mind and soul to beautiful things.

Beautiful! Thanks, Gandolfo!
Dunno how they all seemed to know what they were singing about though... It was all pretty unintelligible to me.
Beautiful, though, to hear a man sounding like a man. How well a baritone melts with a contralto and how well beautiful melodies can pass the language barrier.

Re: Celtic and Germanic folk music
I can easily understand how a man can yodel (slipping between "normal" voice and falsetto [I could do it myself before my falsetto vanished]) but all the best yodelers I've ever heard are women. Fascinating!
Anyhow, I couldn't understand a word of what that girl was singing about... but I don't think you need to, eh?
