New post Authentic Magisterium
A recent correspondent of mine stated the following:

Quote:
The errors of the present crisis deal only with the Authentic Magisterium, of which there can be errors. This is evident where there is discordant with traditional doctrine.

Would anyone like to tackle this one?

Yes, I would. Just ask him to quote the source he got this from so that you can look it up yourself. End of argument, around 99% of the time. This is not a joke. More's the pity. Let me know if you get a source.

John, thanks for replying.

I have requested a source but as you say that could be the end of it.

Briefly, what is the Authentic Magisterium? and

can there be errors?

You could assist the bloke by pushing him to find a source. Ask him how he knows it is true if he cannot even tell you whence he learned it. Make him think. That's if you care about him, of course.

Could you provide an example of the Authentic or "authoritative" magisterium. Also, you stated that "the teaching of the pope is obligatory even when not protected from all possibility of error" What sort of errors are you referring to?

Cam, keep reading that thread. I think it is all covered.
