 Obsequious, genteel, forthright.
There's a whole lot of political correctness in a "definition" of each.
I don't have a tux or bowtie and I don't plan to get either. Anyhow, just because I've mud on my boots and dirt on my hands doesn't mean that I'm afraid of toffs.
Oh dear, Katie, Maybe I've already made your tea room into a bar room brawl. (Except that the toffs won't show up here, will they?)

Mud, boots, dirt? This is the place for you. I don't define gentlemen by their dress standards. It takes all kinds, and I generally like all kinds. That is except for boorishly behaved types using forums to push their agendas. Agendas which don't agree with mine, that is.

Let's go into the highways and byways and look for a scrap that might yield a soul, not just a pompous dissertation.

 Re: Obsequious, genteel, forthright.
Even though I'd had a touch too much cheap wine and I was feeling grumpy when I started this thread, the issue still is that Catholicism is not just for highbrow types. Too many people are frightened away by too much social rectitude... conventional "politeness", and other merely socio-cultural mores.
I think that there are many, many rough, grubby, but morally and intellectually honest people "out there" who would be pleased to be able to discuss or enliven their (perhaps latent) Faith if they could do so in their native idiom, even if such might entail a bit of idiomatic scrapping.
Just my opinion.

It's looking like you'll have to go into the highways and byways to collect a bunch of rowdies to fill your Tea Room, Katie! (I think there's a precedent in the Parables by Himself, isn't there?)

I don't want rowdies to fill the Tea Room. One is just fine. Even if I don't manage to provoke him enough so as to be able to provoke me. Keep trying.

Is that an invitation to "notch up" the provocation thingy? Quote: I don't want rowdies to fill the Tea Room. Borrrr, ing! Even the rowdiest rowdy can't fill your Tea Room by himself.

I think you're doing a pretty good job of it. In fact, I am thinking about renaming the Tea Room "Dave 'n' Kate's Place".
